D95 - 08/01/24 KENAI FJORDS NATIONAL PARK

But first breakfast and the Alaska SeaLife Center. I must say it’s nice being able to walk most everywhere in downtown Seward from our basecamp. Just a block from us is the old relocated train station that now houses two small restaurants. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast there at Zudy’s Cafe along with some hot coffee.

Afterwards we strolled another block over to the Alaska SeaLife Center. It was a nice visit! Take note … we found out that if we come back we can sign up to volunteer and receive free camping with full hook-ups.

There is a National Park Visitor Center in town for Kenai Fjords. We made a quick stop there before heading out into the park to visit Exit Glacier. Needed my passport stamp! It’s one of the most visited glaciers in the world. So with that said I know a few of you have been there previously. So post your pictures below in the comments with the year that you made your visit. It will be interesting to see and compare the amount of melting glacier ice over just a few years time. Due to climate change it is currently melting at a rate of over 162 feet per year but has had a record 300’ in one year. As of 2015 over 1.5 miles in two centuries! Those numbers have to be higher by now.

Our day there included hiking the trails to several view points. We also went out on the Outwash Plain to get an even better view from below of Exit Glacier. What an incredible view! The beautiful blue glacial crevasses standing out from the rest of the glacier.

On our return to Seward we checked out a nearby boondocking location. We think we need to find a place to camp tomorrow night since we believe we are done with our visit to Seward. We hope to finalize details tonight of what we will do tomorrow. Do we stay or do we go?

Tim and I still had a few more quick stops to make on our way back to basecamp this afternoon. Bay Traders True Value Hardware store and Alice Campground. The hardware store was a fun place to stop and interesting that their prices are very reasonable. And I had no idea until a few weeks ago that not only do I have a campground but an entire mountain (5,265’) as well. I need to get out more!!

Dinner:

Penne Rigate with fresh homemade Italian spaghetti sauce topped with Parmesan Cheese! (should have added salmon … lol)

Last night at the museum we had rain off and on throughout the night and very strong winds. Other than that it was a very quiet night. Oh an...
