D120- 08/26/24 Tsú yéi Eekwasateen

"Tsú yéi Eekwasateen" means "until we meet again". Last night was our last night in Alaska and this morning was our last morning in Alaska. From the moment we departed the campground this morning in Hyder, AK within ten minutes we were through another easy border crossing and back into Stewart, British Columbia Canada. Our final goodbye. Sadly just like that. Gone. Goodbye for now Alaska. We will be back!

Our travels today had our Airstream New Hampshire friends following us. We drove up up Glacier Highway (37A) back to Cassiar Highway (37). Out of the majestic coastal mountains and back past Bear Glacier.

Gitanyow First Nation village was a nice side trip for us today. They have a gas station bar. Also it’s the largest concentration of standing totem poles in northwestern British Columbia. Totem poles are not religious. They proclaim the owner’s clan status and inherited family traditions. The poles are amazing examples of the artist talents of these native people.

After our side trip we continued our journey through the Skeena and Cassiar Mountains then through beautiful rolling hills and into some farmlands of sorts in the Central Interior Plateau. Our basecamp for the evening is in Smithers, British Columbia. After both rigs fueled and purchased much needed provisions we have landed in a Canadian Tire parking lot. Canadian Tire allows free boondocking with permission. They also have a free dump station and fresh water in the parking lot. And they sell propane that we purchased. Bonus!

Civilization was almost hard to come back to. Things we all noticed. First fast foods … Subway and McDonald’s. Smooth roads. Jett appreciates this one. First billboards that we have seen in months. More vehicles. More people. Ants. The first real full sized grocery store that I have been in, in a month. With all this said I really want to turn around and go back. Alaska has a very hard but special way of life. Nowhere else like it in the world. I miss it already.

Wish I could keep all the memories and adventures tight and never forget them. We have thousands of photographs to remember Alaska by. Tim and I can’t wait to return. These conversations of a return have already begun.

Dinner was at Brixx Brewhouse next door to Canadian Tire. All four of us had a delicious dinner out together. Great conversations. Our time

is limited with our New Hampshire friends as well. Hopefully tonight will be quiet here in the parking lot. There are two other rigs here besides us. Currently making four rigs total for the night.
