I took a few pictures before our departure today of our ‘pull into’ campsite on the edge of the campground road that we had last night. Had forgotten to take them yesterday and was in denial about possibly getting a cold. Nooo. Sure enough … I’m getting a cold! I woke up with a terrible sore throat. After checking we figured out that we did not have any cold medicine on hand only cough drops. And we are miles away from any substantial stores that would have any. Ugh.
Our caravan today continued southeast on the AlCan Highway (Hwy 1). We followed our Airstream New Hampshire friends. At our fuel stop in Nugget City … checked … they had no cold medicine but lucky for me our friends did. Thank you!!
At Junction 37 we headed south on Cassiar Highway (Hwy 37). We are now back in British Columbia. So far the Cassiar has not been horrible to this point. It’s narrow and no road lines. Winding with very hilly whoopsie doos. Gorgeous drive even through rain and the old wildfire burn areas from 2011.
Both rigs made a quick drive through at Boya Lake Provincial Park to check out the campground there. Gorgeous campground with sites on the lake.
Then we all stopped at Jade City. It’s an interesting roadside attraction. I’ve never seen such large and so much beautiful Jade all in one place. Both raw, carved and polished. The region around Jade City is rich with many types of Jade. About 90% of the Jade in the world comes from this area here in the Cassiar Mountains. There’s even a reality show series about this place … JADE FEVER.
Basecamp for the evening is on Dease Lake in British Columbia off of the Cassiar Highway. We have managed to get both rigs down into Sawmill Point in the rain. It’s downhill all the way to the lake. The narrow gravel road down in here has two steep sections. As best we can tell, in the rain, it’s a beautiful place.
Tomorrow morning we will get these rigs back up outta here and continue heading south on the Cassiar Highway.
