D117 - 08/23/24 KINASKAN LAKE

Getting out of Sawmill Point was not as bad as we had anticipated. The guys had a meeting early this morning and put their plans and strategies together for our departure. Tim drove us out first.

The first incline was the worst as our tires began to slightly spin while towing the Airstream out. Slow and steady. The second incline was much easier as Tim had put the truck into four wheel drive. Easy peasy! We then called our progress out on our walkie talkies to our friends who followed suit. Then a few miles down the road was a nice gravel pull out, easily accessible from the road, with a beautiful lookout over the lake. LOL

The drive today continued down the Cassiar Highway in British Columbia. There was only one bad patch of road on a hairpin turn. Otherwise the drive was not bad. Our fuel stop was made in the town of Dease Lake. We then came into some light rain. With us driving in the lead today at one point we looked back and there were three additional RVs following us. Caravan convoy! The decision was made to pull into a rest stop to let them all pass. Well … they all followed us into the rest stop! LOL

Kinaskan Lake Provincial Park will be our basecamp for this evening. What a beautiful provincial park. Most are nice but this one is spectacular. There are many campsites right on the lake with spectacular views looking north across the lake. The mountains supplying an incredible backdrop. We got lucky and got two sites on the lake next to each other. This campground will definitely be noted for any future trips back.

The evening ended with another lovely campfire! And a special treat as our Airstream New Hampshire friends made chocolate chip cookies to snack on. Tomorrow will be yet another travel day with maybe a few surprises in store.

*Thanks everyone for checking on me. By end of day I began feeling much better and sounding better too!
