Today’s departure was a tough one. We really liked this place in Haines. There was no availability to stay at this location longer. Such stunning scenery. Lovely people and a unique town. After our departure we had another easy border crossing back into Canada.
Our drive took us back up through British Columbia and into the Yukon. As we drove past Kathleen Lake signs were out that it is closed. Guessing it’s now closed for the season. We then passed through Haines Junction and on into Whitehorse. Another spectacular drive! Amazing to see all the beautiful changing landscapes from the opposite direction.
Sometimes the best laid plans don’t always happen as anticipated. Our goal was to land at Wolf Creek for the evening with no reservations. It’s a 50/50 for reservations and first come. On our arrival it was FULL. A first for us on this trip. So Plan B! But we didn’t have one. So on we ventured (past our turn) to Marsh Lake. Only a few reservable sites were left there. Now it was game on to reserve one of the last few campsites before the other half a dozen campers who were also scoping things out grabbed the last ones available. Just in the nick of time! Fast thumbs for the win!!
The weather (heat) is still on radar over the next few days. We have initiated a detour to hopefully stay out of it. Fingers crossed the stars align and that the new plans fall into place.
Never say never!
