Travel day! We drove just over 200 miles from Marsh Lake to Big Creek on the AlCan Highway. The drive was easy. Beautiful scenery of the rolling mountains, gorgeous lakes and meandering rivers. Not as spectacular as our last few driving days but still amazing.
Along the way there were only a few pot holes and small heaves. There were also a number of long gravel brakes and one construction zone that required a pilot escort. The warning signs were ‘Extreme Dust’ and ‘Slow Fresh Oil’. Yikes! The oil sign warns drivers to expect fresh oil on road ahead. Oil is used as a dust suppressant.
Our campsite here on Big Creek is nice. It’s almost a pull over and not really a pull through but perfect for one night. Tim and I are now caravanning with our Airstream New Hampshire friends. They departed shortly after us and arrived here not long after we did.
Once settled in we had a lovely campfire and all of us discussed our plans for tomorrow’s drive. There will be less miles traveled but we will have more stops to make along the way. We will also be on a rough road tomorrow so we plan to stay at a closer distance to each other while driving.
