Luckily for us we didn’t need to get moving very early today. Our checkout time at Chilkoot Lake was noon and our check in time at our next location was noon as well. Our drive was just 20 minutes. Interesting that there’s no cellular service in that 20 minutes/10 miles.
The location for our next basecamp was right in the town of Haines, Alaska. And I really like this little port. Gorgeous scenery!Everything is walking distance and easily accessible. We have another great campsite right on the water. Oceanside RV Park is really nice. It doesn’t get any better than this! What incredible views!! I believe their tent sites have the best views anywhere! The clubhouse is pretty nice too. The laundry in the clubhouse is probably the nicest we have had in a campground so far. Just a perfect location with the perfect amenities that we need.
Interesting that the last four campgrounds we have been at an Airstream couple from New Hampshire has been there as well. Following us they claim! They usually show up right after we arrive. But we have only talked to them the last few stops. The last stop they were in the next loop. This time they are just two campsites away. Getting closer!
Once we settled today and showed them our Airstream Tim and I washed clothes. Walked the town. Stopped at a local brewery. Then after much difficulty ordered dinner to-go from next door only to eat it in the bar there and enjoy a cold beer. Perfect.
Afterwards we met up with our New Hampshire friends to watch the Queen Elizabeth cruise ship depart port. We all bundled up and sat outside behind their Airstream. After she left we then saw three other ships cruise through from Skagway. What a lovely sight to see here at night. We even saw a few more stars out!
The plan is to stay here one more night. In order to do that we need to move over three campsites. But that’s
fine as long as we get this amazing view!
