D100- 08/06/24 DAY 100 MILESTONE

Awesome! Day 100 of this Epic Adventure is in the books! Not a record for us as we have done four months previously. Today not much exciting happened. We expected rain all day so planned accordingly. What happened … overcast and not a drop of rain.

We washed clothes. Walked two blocks to the post office to ship out our broken fly rod. Big mistake as Valdez Brewery is on the way. Also made a stop at Prospector Outfitters a sporting goods store. There we met Olive the new store dog in training. ADORBS!!

Off to the other end of town where I purchased a pair of Yelloweye Rockfish earrings that I had been trying to locate. They look like little ivory carved feathers but in fact are otoliths. Otoliths, also known as ear stones, are small, calcified structures found in the inner ear of bony fish that help with balance and hearing. They are made of calcium carbonate and protein, and each fish has three pairs of otoliths that vary in size and shape depending on the species.

After we finished walking about the waterfront Tim and I landed at the Fat Mermaid for an early dinner. We sat at the bar and had a lovely dinner of cod and rockfish. Sponge Bob Square Pants was on the TV. Our bartender was tired of that so she changed it to Duck Dynasty. Which is worse?! Once back at basecamp we washed more clothes … towels and linens. Then I treated Jett to a walk on the docks. And wore her out! We walked forever up and down every dock looking for the sea otter. We told her he was a ‘sea puppy’. She was constantly looking but we never found him. I’ll take her out in the morning to see if we can find him again!
