D109- 08/15/24 DAY TWO IN HAINES

Since we got lucky and were able to get another night here in town we had to start our day with moving over three sites. But first coffee!

Our New Hampshire friends were moving on today. We will stay in touch with them as we all continue to head back to the lower 48. Once we said our goodbyes and moved sites Tim and I decided to have a second coffee to enjoy the beautiful weather outside. Perfect day. One of those too cool in the shade and not hot out in the sun. But from living in Florida you keep wanting to go in the shade only to get cold.

The afternoon went so fast. We walked the waterfront and headed over to Fort William H. Seward. Many buildings are still there. It turned out to be an interesting and fun walking history tour.

Afterwards we walked downtown. Did some window shopping and checked out a few neat stores with local art. Then visited the must see Hammer Museum! I don’t know how many hammers are in there but they have just about every type of hammer that exists. Had to walk back to town later to pick up a few groceries. Look at some of the prices. I have wanted to show you all this but have never taken pictures until today. Unfortunately this is Alaska and the cost to get supplies here is very, VERY EXPENSIVE!

We had a relaxing evening sitting outside behind the Airstream again watching the cruise ships in the distance. The one that was here today left at 6pm. The other ships are coming from and going to Skagway. There should be one arriving back here in the morning around 6am. It will be nice to watch it come into port early. Our surrounding scenery here is just so spectacular we can’t help but to admire it every minute that we have.

There is a slight chance we could stay here a few additional days. Hot weather is coming inland in a few days and with no AC in the truck we will need to either sit still for that hotter weather to pass or try to get ahead of it.
