9/6 - MORMON ROW HISTORIC DISTRICT

Even during a storm the beauty shines through here in the Grand Tetons. Tim and I thought we could get a hike in today and a tour of the Mormon Row Historic District. However the weather said otherwise.

Scattered showers and cooler weather came our way. The clouds hung low over the peaks of the Teton Range. It lent for a very dramatic backdrop surrounding the Mormon Row. The clouds have the mountain peaks socked in. Still so beautiful.

John and Bartha Moulton Homestead

Once a vibrant community the Mormons homesteaded here by living, working, worshiping, and playing together. There were 27 original homesteads here. Where other homesteaders failed the Mormons survived with communal tasks.

The weather has really been good to us on this trip so far. Temperatures have been mild during the day and cool to cold at night. We have not had rain like today since we were in South Dakota. The rain was welcoming to settle the dust and slow the roll for us. It’s been a busy week.

The hike will have to wait for another visit. Glad we were at least able to get Mormon Row in. The afternoon was instead spent eating pizza and ice cream, drinking beer and a visit to the launderette here!

Tomorrow we begin moving south into different terrain and more exciting adventures!
