8/31 - TRAVEL DAY TO GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK

Another moving day! The drive today was a short few hours away and easy. With hundreds of miles under my belt towing this Airstream over the years today was my highest elevation drive. I did pretty good and the new truck tows way better than the old one. And Tim never had to use the brake on his side! LOL And I can say he did ‘okay’ as a navigator today.

Since our arrival today we have been able to get a better idea of the weather at home. As of now it seems the hurricane has slightly changed direction and will skirt Florida’s east coast. Monitoring the weather at home will continue to be our priority. Tim and I have Plan B or C in place if needed.

Service is very spotty here. I can snail text from our site but receiving/sending pictures or email is impossible. One of the things to do tomorrow will be to figure out the best WiFi hot spots and how will reception be driving the loop. Normally we wouldn’t care however the weather at home concerns us.

Having landed at our new basecamp, we are living it up y’all!!! Colter Bay Village here in Grad Teton NP will be our home for the upcoming week. The excitement is that we now have FULL HOOKUPS! That has not been the case since we left Georgia forty days ago.   Checking fresh water levels, gray/black water and solar input is a constant to monitor being off grid.

Now to get even more excited about our location I can walk from our basecamp into the Village to a launderette, WiFi hot spots, a visitor center, the amphitheater, the marina, a beach, get breakfast, a coffee bar, dinning and (wait for it) a BAR! I have to go through some woods but it is walkable. Bear spray is still a must. One has been sited in camp everyday recently.

A few stats and fun quotes. The fuel bill is close to $1,300 now and we have driven over 5,800 miles! Have stayed at five national parks. Been in two countries and have been on the road for forty-one days! Our nightly stays have cost anywhere from nothing to $75/per night. ‘Not sure when I combed my hair last?’ ‘Did we have cookies for breakfast?’ ‘Why do I have a bag of shoes in shower?’ ‘Don’t!’

Once settled in today we drove just a part of the scenic loop. Let me tell you ... the mountain views here are beyond anything we have seen. Jenny Lake was as far south as we made it today. It was getting close to Jett’s dinner time and we had some pork chops to grill. Yum!

Tomorrow we hope to drive the entire loop and take notes for touring and activities for the rest of the week. There are a few excursions that have been reserved while we are here. I’ve just filled Tim in on them. These excursions will be a little different than what we have done in the past. There are many hikes, mountains, canyons, wet meadows, wetlands, lakes, ponds and rivers to explore. This is going to be a great week!!! Stay tuned.

Elevation - 6,810’

Today’s quote -

‘Mountains piled on Mountains and capped with three spiral peaks which pierce the cloud.’ - Osborne Russell
