9/17 - THE NARROWS

YUP! We did it again. Five years ago Tim and I hiked The Narrows at which point it became my favorite hike. After today it still holds true.

In order to get to The Narrows you have to take the shuttle bus inside Zion National Park to the last stop. This last stop is called the Temple of the Sinawava and is the gateway to The Narrows. The Narrows is considered a strenuous hike.

It’s definitely an unforgettable experience. The Narrows are 16 miles long, up to 2,000-feet deep, and at times only 20 to 30-feet wide. It’s not to be underestimated. You hike most of it wading, walking and sometimes swimming in the Virgin River. The rocks are slippery. The water very cold (about 65° today) and the current swift. Flash flooding is a constant danger as well.

Tim and I made it as far as Wall Street where the Orderville Canyon comes in. This is the kind of hike I could do all day. Every turn is a surprise with its soaring walls. We had Jett to get back to and knew this was our turn around. At least we went farther this time than last. It was just an AMAZING day!!!

Today’s quote -

‘The finest workers of stone are not copper or steel tools, but the gentle touches of air and water working at their leisure with a liberal allowance of time.’ - Henry David Thoreau
