ONWARD WEST WE GO . . .

Trinidad was spectacular. It was a great place to wind down after four long days of driving. We must come back for another visit. There is so much history here just between the Scenic Highway of Legends and the Santa Fe Trail you really could spend a good bit of time here.

There are also museums, festivals, hiking and so much more. The temperatures on our first morning in Trinidad were 49* exterior and 54* interior. Then on our second morning 46* exterior and 52* interior and the daily highs were in the low 80's.

This morning we departed Trinidad to head farther west. We took Hwy. 160 that we have been warned about driving/towing at the higher elevations on it. Our first pass to cross was La Vita at an elevation of 9,415 feet. The views and changing scenery spectacular. Then we came to the Wolf Creek pass. Oh my! Our our highest elevation we peaked out at was 10,886 feet and the temperature had dropped to 64*. This area was even more spectacular and jaw dropping than any scenic drive we have taken. The better pictures are on the GoPro and I am having issues getting those pictures uploaded right now. Uuugh!!!

Around 3PM Mountain time we arrived in Durango, Colorado. We've not had anytime to explore anything outside this RV park. However the Durango and Silverton Railroad runs right through this campground!

We are at United Campgrounds. This is not where we anticipated spending time at (the first choice was booked) however even with the smaller sites we have a few advantages by being here. One ... the railroad running thru camp and second the FREE Durango trolley makes it's last stop here before turning back around to go into town. The trolly runs 12 hours per day making stops here every 20 minutes. We will be taking advantage of this since we hear parking is at a premium in town.

MILES DRIVEN TODAY: 268
TOTAL MILES DRIVEN: 2,006
CURRENT ELEVATION: 6,460'
TEMPERATURE: 84*
