D87 - 07/24/24 GOOD DAY SUNSHINE

Yes!! We had a day of mostly sunshine. It was a gorgeous day and everyone was out enjoying it. I took a walk at low tide this morning. Very interesting the tide level changes. The highest tides in the United States can be found near Anchorage, Alaska, with tidal ranges that average around thirty feet. And that’s about what’s happening here. I took a reading at almost low tide … -10 feet below sea level. Then took a reading at the Airstream … 20 feet above sea level. Crazy!

Here are the official tides for Homer Spit from NOAA:

The highest tide of 20.34ft was at 5:10 am and the lowest tide of -3.61ft will be at 11:23 am.

The rest of the day pretty much flew after my low tide walk. We drove up to the Viewpoint Skyline on Skyline Drive. From there you can see stunning views of Homer, Homer Spit, Cook Inlet, Kachemak Bay and the surrounding snow capped mountains.

Then I wanted to do a drive by of Alice’s Champagne Palace. I had to go! Well that meant we were going to turn around in the parking lot which really meant we went in for a cold brew and an appetizer. Then I walked out with a super cool Alice’s Champagne Palace t-shirt and hoodie.

Our next few stops were quick … Homer Baycrest Overlook Point, a local Thrift Store and Homer Farmer’s Market.

The day ended with the official start of this Sisters on the Fly event … Sisters on The Spit just for the Halibut! Our meet-up was at the Salty Dawg Saloon. Meeting everyone for the first time at these events is always fun. We took over a big area on the outside patio. Since it was a Sister Mister event a total of three husbands came this evening, including Tim. Of course they all hung out together.

Afterwards most of us headed down to Land’s End and enjoyed a fabulous dinner at The Chart Room.

What spectacular views there are from the restaurant and the deck outback. As we walked back to our basecamp we realized we would see a sunset this evening! Gorgeous and we of course had to watch it.

Travel day! Not much excitement except for one brief moment in time. I spotted a herd of elk migrating across a field. There were probably 3...
