JETT UPDATE:
Thank you to everyone who has asked about Jett and has sent well wishes to her. She is feeling much better today and is wagging her tail. That’s a good sign for us! 🐾🐾
Today we had rain. It’s been mostly a light rain off and on. With the rain and a dog under the weather we decided to try to find rain pants for me again.
This took us back into Anchorage and back along the Turnagain Arm. With every passing it looks different. Rain. Sun. High tide. Low tide and low clouds. We had some sun today on our way in and a high tide. We looked for the Beluga Whales. Nothing. However I researched their reason why they are there.
It appears that you can see them in the summer from mid-July through August. Those Belugas are here to feed on salmon that are running off the Anchorage coast. Of course it’s the salmon! So much revolves around the salmon up here. You can also see them a few other times of the year depending on weather conditions and falling tides.
On the way we drove into Girdwood. They have a few stores that we thought might have rain gear. No. There is also the Alyeska Ski Resort. It’s a posh slope side resort with a spa and aerial tram. They also have a mountain store that carries some clothing and gear but no rain pants.
We eventually landed at Duluth Trading Co. in Anchorage. Had no idea it was in the same parking lot as the Sportsman Warehouse. I found women’s rain pants that fit. Also I happened across a rain jacket for Jett. They were so wonderful there. They actually let Jett come in the store to try on the rain jacket! I think she did a good job modeling for them. It’s made by the Ruffwear brand and it’s the Sun Shower Rain Jacket that they make. She loves it! The colors are nice too!
This rain jacket we got for for her will help us tremendously. Almost everyday we are adding to the wet muddy towels we use to dry her off with when she goes outside. She wore it when we got back. Did I take a picture? No. Can’t believe I just bought a rain coat for my dog. LOL
On our return drive to basecamp and while driving past Turnagain Arm the tide was low now. Definitely no Belugas. We may be able to see them later next month when we come back through.
This evening we are preparing our backpacks to get ready for a little adventure tomorrow. Now that Jett is getting better we feel comfortable getting back into vaca mode.
