D85 - 07/22/24 HOMER SPIT!!

Rocks!! And more rocks!

So not sure if anyone noticed the photo of the adorable painted ‘Camping’ rock that I posted three - four days ago. Well on the backside of the rock was a Facebook page noted. I took a picture and posted it to the site. The rock didn’t say to keep or to let it stay where found. This morning as we were about to leave a couple came to introduce themselves and she was the rock painting artist.

Now I have answers! I will keep the rock and will take and post pictures of it in my travels on this Epic Adventure. She explained the rock painting site

and the drop and find process. Eventually I will leave it for someone else to find. I was also gifted with another one of her rocks. I will cherish it more than any souvenir that I could possibly purchase. I am so lucky!!

Our travels today took us through the charming town of Homer and out to the tip of the Kenai Peninsula. It rained most of the way here. We have a great campsite out on Homer Spit right on Kachemak Bay. No hook-ups. But the views are to die for. We are right next to the Seafarer’s Memorial in the Homer Spit Campground. The mountains are so close across the bay and absolutely gorgeous. So many rocks on the beach here. Perfect for painting!

Tim and I walked around the Spit for a bit. Jett loves the beach by the way. We watched the fishing charters clean their catch from the day. Tried to go into the world famous Salty Dawgs Saloon, which is so close I can see it from the Airstream , but they were packed. Eventually we landed at Finn’s Pizza for a few cold brews and a salad to go.

On our return to basecamp we grilled some salmon and had our fresh hearty local delicious salad with it. Every night we say the Salmon is better. And tonight’s was even better than what we grilled last night.

I will be attending a Sisters on The Fly event that will take place here later in the week. All the ladies have different plans for the week  and for the most part, unless any outing is done together in small groups, we will mostly be meeting just in the evenings for dinner and campfires. There will be fishing, boating, dinners, horseback riding, farmers market and many other activities to keep us busy.

Sisters on The Fly is the largest women's outdoor group in the US focusing on camping, fly fishing, outdoor activities and events. Most of our events are ladies only. Tim calls it the Man Haters Club. This event was organized as a Sisters Misters event so he is actually attending and will be his first event with them.

This evening we sat outside in the rain under the awning to take in the scenic beauty of the bay. One of the sisters had come early as well and visited with us for the evening. It’s still raining and hopefully we will get a break in the rain soon.

Travel day! Not much excitement except for one brief moment in time. I spotted a herd of elk migrating across a field. There were probably 3...
