D67 - 07/04/24 BEST 4th OF JULY EVER!

I will first apologize for the photo dump. Between three devices we took so many photos and videos to remember today. Tim took 24 videos and about 8 stills. I did only a few videos and 367 stills. Wow! There was just so much media to go through from today. And also apologies for the picture sequence to be out of order.

To summarize the day and to keep me from getting boring here is hopefully a brief summary of our day …

Gate opened at 8:30am. We arrived at 9:50 am. Parked a mile from the entrance along the road. Then walked another mile into the venue down to the viewing area. A miracle happened on our way in and we bumped into our Ramblin’ Rose friends. I was so excited to have them with us during this special event!

We got a great spot to sit amongst the wave of thousands of other people. It was not only a great day weather wise for the launches here in Alaska but a spectacular day to people and dog watch! Yeah. Good times!!

The entertainment started with helicopters, then a parachute jump, two zip liners passed overhead, a formation of bush planes followed by a Coast Guard C-130. The bush planes and the C-130 did a number of flybys. Pure craziness as the vehicle launching began!

My favorite top three launches were The Bus from Atlanta, the Barbie Corvette, Dukes of Hazard Car immediately followed by a cop car (with lights on) and finally the camper towing a boat!! Ooops I guess that was four maybe five if you count the cop car separately from the Dukes of Hazard car. LOL In the end they launched a record 29-30 vehicles. I think they lost count!

Tim and I had the best time today. What a super fun way to celebrate the 4th of July in Alaska! Could not have asked for a better time! On our way out vehicles were parked two miles past the entrance on both sides of the road and we heard three miles in the opposite direction. Plus all the vehicles that they were able to park on property.

Enjoy all the photos and we hope everyone had a safe and fun 4th of July!!

(Apologies to friends and family … we are without cellular here and only got messages once we got back to the Airstream and connected to our Starlink. Then the four hour time difference made it too late to respond. Sorry. I’ll touch base tomorrow! Love you all!! πŸ₯°πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸŽ‰)

Travel day! Not much excitement except for one brief moment in time. I spotted a herd of elk migrating across a field. There were probably 3...
