D83 - 07/20/24 FISH ON!!

Today was the day! Tim and I had a fabulous day fishing for sockeye salmon. The weather was perfect. Sunny and no rain. We both lost count of how many we hooked. LOVED taking on these fighting fish. In the end we got five. 2 - 3 Tim! The limit here is now six each. I can’t imagine had we landed twelve of these beasts!

One of the salmon I had on fought the fight for at least five minutes. When he rolled at the water’s edge we realized just how big he was! And just like that I lost him back to the Kenai River. Of course the big one got away. Tim and I make a great fishing team! When one gets a salmon on, the other grabs the net.

Tim use to enter and fish bass tournaments. I grew up fishing on a fresh water lake in Florida. We also use to own several off shore fishing boats and have done some amazing fishing on Florida’s east coast, west coast and the Florida Keys. Bottom fishing for grouper and flounder. Trolling for Sail Fish and Mahi-mahi. Snapper fishing! Shrimping!! And have snorkeled and scuba dived for many lobsters. This was a nice change and challenge for us.

Tim had his work cut out for him this evening cleaning all these salmon at the river. We tag teamed it again once back at basecamp. Filleting and bagging! Good news we had to eat ice cream before dinner to make room for the fish in the freezer. Bad news we don’t have a huge freezer so we will need to be mindful of how much more fish we haul in.

Dinner? Salmon! I lightly coated a fillet with olive oil. Put on a thin layer of brown sugar then topped it with fresh Prince William Sound Roasted Garlic Sea Salt and ground pepper. Tim grilled it to perfection and we only had a light pasta salad on the side as to fill up on the delicious fish. It doesn’t get much fresher than this!

Hands down the best salmon ever!!

Travel day! Not much excitement except for one brief moment in time. I spotted a herd of elk migrating across a field. There were probably 3...
