August 3, 2021 - Yoga at 9,120’ Again!

What a morning! We needed to be at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort in the Teton Village by 9AM. Last nights directions gave it as a 57 minute drive
with the evening rush of tourists. This morning at
8AM it was just 37 minutes. It kind of a straight shot west but there are no roads or bridges unless you go some miles south or some miles north to get there and then cross over and cut back.

Two years ago when we were  staying at Colter Bay we did the same thing. Drove over to Jackson Hole for yoga. Not just any yoga but yoga on the mountain at 9,120 feet. To get up there it takes a lift ticket purchase for the gondola. Last time class was outside on The Deck this year class was moved to the second floor balcony above The Deck.

When we came two years ago we had full hook-ups so Jett at basecamp and Tim came to ride up for the view and some brew while I was in class. Not the case this time. Jett had to come with us and they don’t allow dogs on the gondola. Since the mountain was socked in the clouds the decision was made for Tim to stay down below in Teton Village with Jett while I went up for the yoga class.

Yoga at 9,120’ was just as amazing as the first time. I never expected to be able to have this opportunity again. It was just the thing I needed after days of travel and hiking. I loved that it was moved to the upper balcony above The Deck. Even though it was socked in the ride was up was gorgeous and the clouds had begun to lift by the time yoga was done. Once back down in The Village and once Tim decided not to use his lift ticket that was purchased months ago, just for a ride up and back, I passed his lift ticket forward to a sweet family about to purchase tickets. Enjoy!!

We took N. Moose Wilson Road as our return. This is a dirt road that meanders through the southern tip of Grand Teton National Park.

Now let me tell you about our afternoon. Crowds! Tim and I decided to take a hike over at Jenny Lake. We would swing by basecamp, have lunch, then wait until about 3:30PM to leave so the crowds would die down. Our arrival to the trail head at 4PM was shocking. As we approached Jenny Lake cars were parked a half mile on both sides of the main road in both directions. Cars were also parked on both sides of the entrance road which is about a quarter of a mile long and the parking lot was slam packed full. We thought it was crowded two years ago! Can’t imagine what it was like earlier in the day. We moved on.

Further down we were able to do a small scenic route near Jenny Lake Lodge and also stopped at a few look outs. Watched three elk with our binoculars. Everyone else was too busy speeding by to even notice them. We are so grateful we had the opportunity to explore this beautiful National Park two years ago. We will continue to see this park from a distance, see those things we didn’t get to see before, and hope that this will not be the case for years to come. The stress that it puts on a park can be irreversible.

The evening ended with the perfect campfire! Our first this trip due to either rain, no fire rings or fire bans.
