D54 - 06/21/24 PIONEER AIR MUSEUM

No we didn’t. Yes, we did! We will stay another night in the parking lot here at Pioneer Park. You know the place I didn’t want to stay. The place that we met new amazing friends. Before we got into bed last night (early this morning) Tim realized we needed to get propane as the tank has switched over. And with the locations ahead of us, Fairbanks would be our best bet. It just made sense to stay one more night.

After a light breakfast this morning Tim took off to get propane while I stayed at the Airstream to watch Jett and read. Our new Airstream friends all took off to do the riverboat cruise. Then the rain began early afternoon.

After hanging in the Airstream waiting for the rain to stop we decided to just go ahead out into Pioneer Park in the rain. It wasn’t raining hard so we suited up in our raincoats and walked into the park. Our mission was to visit the Pioneer Air Museum. It’s small but very quaint. The museum covers Alaska’s aviation heritage, featuring vintage airplanes and a helicopter. Very impressive for the size of the museum.

Just as we got back to the Airstream, our Airstream friends returned and wouldn’t you know it another happy hour took place. So many fun stories were told and we all had a great time. Of course staying up way too late again.

Today Tim had heard about the Midnight Sun baseball game happening tonight a block away starting at 10pm. A semi-pro team against a local team. It’s the 119th year of this annual game. No one here in the lot could get tickets because it was sold out long ago! BUT we were treated to their flyover at 9:56 pm before the start of the game. Spectacular airshow of four F-35s!!!

Tomorrow we have to move on and depart Fairbanks. We will need to stage ourselves closer to one of the few reservations that we do have. That reservation begins on Sunday. The plan is to get fairly close tomorrow and hopefully get a place that we can connect to power. We’ve not had power or used the generator in six days now. With Sunday starting another run of seven days boon docking, it would be great to start that run fully charged. There are a few places to stop along the way and hopefully one of our possible destinations has availability for us to stay.

Last night at the museum we had rain off and on throughout the night and very strong winds. Other than that it was a very quiet night. Oh an...
