The rain started early. Luckily we had everything outside taken care of last night knowing it would rain this morning. Before we left Watson Lake we made our last stop at the Sign Post Forest.
It was forty-six degrees fahrenheit and raining but we found our spot. Hung our Oakland, Florida sign. Then took headings and notes about landmarks so that a riddle, so to speak, could be written to guide anyone to our sign. I will include our riddle at the end of this post.
The drive to Whitehorse was not bad. Some construction and heaves along the way but they are marked. The Alaskan Highway began following alongside some more snow capped mountains. There were low clouds covering some of them. Along the way I had a car pass me from New York going really fast. Then about ten miles down the road that vehicle had rolled on a straight away. Everyone was fine and out of the vehicle. Then about fifteen minutes later the rescue fire truck, ambulance and tow truck passed us heading to them. Guess it took about thirty minutes total to get to them. Make you realize how far away from help one is.
It seems like we can go hundreds of miles and not see a single building, home or any population or even a person. We are out here! The population in the Yukon in 2023 was just 45,597 people. As a comparison the just the metro population of Orlando, Florida in 2023 was 2,071,000. The Yukon is 186,272 square miles. It is larger than California and about the same size as Spain.
Our stay here in Whitehorse may be a few nights. We will make that decision in the morning. The summer crowds have caught up with us we think. The campground that we are is is packed. Hoping after here we can go back off grid again.
SIGN POST FOREST RIDDLE:
I, where am? Help you I will.
Do or do not. There is no try.
Stay and help you I will.
