D51 - 06/18/24 LAST DAY ON SALCHA RIVER

Wow! I slept in. And Jett too. Rolled out of bed just past 8:30 am. Tim got up before me. Gasp. Never before.  Love that eye mask! The other two rigs that were boon docking along with us left this morning. It was great meeting them and exchanging travel information. Hopefully we will catch up with them again in the future.

The air show continued today. With Eielson Air Force Base (21 minutes) north just over the mountain and also Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks that’s 45 minutes away we have had an active airspace here. Started today with a four-blade twin-engine Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter first thing. Then some F-16 fighter jets through out the day. And of course the fire service helicopter was in/out all day until 10pm again.

The smoke from the fire continued throughout the day. Even started clearing some at times. What we believed was a controlled burn turns out is a nearby wildfire. Don’t always believe what you’re told and sometimes the internet is actually right.

Skipped some rocks on the river today. I’m trying to master the skill. The fly rods came out also. The fish did not bite. Again no locals fishing this area and the fish have not begun running here yet. We don’t think we will catch anything for a few weeks until we get out on the peninsula. Gathered rocks. Read some. And enjoyed a little time on my ukulele.

So today could be the last of the helicopter shots. (I promise … maybe) Tomorrow, we believe, will be a moving day. As difficult as it will be and so hard to pull up the roots that began to anchor us here on the edge of the Salcha River, the Airstream needs to roll on. There is so much more ahead of us to see and do on this Epic Adventure!

D142 - 09/17/24 DEADHORSE POINT

Last night at the museum we had rain off and on throughout the night and very strong winds. Other than that it was a very quiet night. Oh an...
