As it turned out we stayed in Whitehorse another day. We wanted to check out Miles Canyon. It is a very scenic canyon on the Yukon River here in Whitehorse. Tim and I made the short drive there to explore the area.
Wow! So beautiful. We did a portion of the 9.4 mile loop trail. It’s a turquoise river flowing between tall cliffs. There’s a really cool suspension bridge there too! We hiked for awhile looking at the views from both sides of the river. And we finally had some SUN after a short sprinkling of rain.
The rest of the day was spent checking out the city of Whitehorse. Drove the scenic Miles Canyon Road back into town. Saw some bush planes parked on the river. Had a quick stop at the S.S. Klondike. It was closed for a complete renovation.
Tried looking for a unique non-chain kinda place for a cold beer and late lunch. Some were closed. Some were not right for our mood. Finally found the perfect place … Woodcutter’s Bar and Brewery. Locals supporting locals. We had their amazing brewed beer (Chocolate Porter & Westy Double IPA) and the food was fantastic! I chose the Woodcutter’s Burger made with pork and beef then smoked and a side Caesar salad. Tim decided on the Bahn Mi, a classic slow roasted Vietnamese pork sandwich. Delish!!
Afterwards our stops included fueling, liquor store and a grocery stop. On our way back to the campground we saw the DC-3 by the airport that’s a wind vane. Thats kinda cool. It was a full day! Tomorrow will be a travel day.
