D53 - 06/20/24 SUMMER SOLSTICE

Fairbanks has long been known as “the Land of the Midnight Sun.” Today’s summer solstice will be the earliest in more than two centuries. And what better place to be than here in Fairbanks for this special day. Basking in the 24-hour daylight just 140 miles south of the Arctic Circle.

Today turned out to be a very fun, long and exciting day. Took my morning walk around Pioneer Park. Then we made it to the University of Alaska to visit the Museum of the North. This museum has a lot of interesting exhibits pertaining to the state of Alaska. This fascinating museum is the state's only research and teaching museum. Tim and I enjoyed seeing and learning all that we did. Well worth the visit!

The actual Bus 142, made famous and known from the movie INTO THE WILD, was taken off public view here at the Museum of the North last October. Its conservation has been completed. Once proper funds are raised to create its public exhibition the bus will be back on display and in an outdoor setting. Now I have to come back! But at least hopefully later in the week we can see the picture car Bus 142 used in the movie.

Our next stop was Fountainhead Antique Auto Museum. Wow! Just a stunning car museum. It is by far the best auto museum I have ever visited. It is also home to a remarkable collection of historic fashions paired with each era of car.

Tim then wanted to go to a local pub called Brewster’s for halibut. He got a dinner plate of halibut and I had to have the tacos for the halibut! LOL Delicious. Then he took me to get my waders. I was able to find a set of ladies chest waders that fit here in town.

Finally arrived back to the Airstream to find another Airstream here. Come to find out they are also from South Carolina and traveling with our neighbors parked next to us. So just like that, a mini impromptu Airstream Rally happened here at the Pioneer Park. We all gathered at our rig. Had a great time with them. Stayed out way too late. Then Tim and I decided to just stay up to witness sunset at 12:48 am. I’ll include that as the last photo!

D142 - 09/17/24 DEADHORSE POINT

Last night at the museum we had rain off and on throughout the night and very strong winds. Other than that it was a very quiet night. Oh an...
