D41 - 06/08/24 DAY AT THE MUSEUMS

What an amazing day we had here in Dawson City checking out a couple of museums and a few historical locations nearby.

First stop was at the Dawson City Fire Hall and Museum. the Deputy Fire Chief gave us a tour. Seemed like he was expecting us. Tim especially enjoyed the visit here looking at all their fire trucks they had and swapping stories about the fire service. Right before we left they exchanged fire patches.

Then Tim and I had a very interesting visit to the Dawson City Museum. Wow. Amazing. They really have done a spectacular job of displaying everything there. Very beautifully done exhibits. So much to read and absorb about local culture and of course the history of the Klondike Gold Rush. And prior to departure we took a peak into the Locomotive Shelter.

Later in the day we drove way out the Bonanza Road to go see the  Dredge No. 4 Historic Site. What a beast! Dredge No. 4 is a wooden-hulled bucketline sluice dredge that mined placer gold on the Yukon River from 1913 until 1959. Definitely makes everything we have read and seen about the local mining come full circle. The Canada Park ladies loved seeing Jett.

And what better way to end our last night here in Canada in the Yukon? Diamond Tooth Gertie’s Cancan Show!! This show was the ultimate end to a great few days here. Diamond Tooth Gertie’s is a live show that has a cast of professional singers and dancers accompanied by live musicians. What a fun evening we had and so glad that we went!
