July 13, 2021 - Hiking, a Brewery & some Dominos

Custer State Park offers some really beautiful trails. Tim and I decided to take a hike today on one trail that has access right from our campsite. We decided to leave Jett at basecamp because last time she hiked here on another trail she got sick. Threw up for two weeks and we had to take her to a vet in Montana. Jett happens!

This trail lead us down to Stockade Lake where it then rises in elevation to an overlook of the lake.

The morning was still damp from the thunder storms last night but things dried out quickly. We had to cut
the hike a little short as another storm was approaching.

The rain is okay. We know that there are other options of things to do if it does rain. Like I say it’s still better than a good day at work. The rain is so needed here. The Custer area seems fine and is lush green but the surrounding areas are in a severe drought with wildfires and on the edge massive crop loss.

The rain drove us into town where we ate out for the first time on this adventure. We went to a place that we have been previously … Mt. Rushmore Brewing. The have delicious food and great beer.

After our late lunch we made a quick stop at the grocery store in town. Here we picked up a few supplies like mascara and chapstick. Both I forgot.
The mascara only took me six days to realize I hadn’t brought any. Whaaat? I think that’s a good sign of no concern and of being relaxed and enjoying life. The chapstick was not even on our radar. We both forgot how much we Floridians who come from high humidity really, really need it when you hit an environment that’s less than 25% humidity. I only have at least half a dozen sticks sitting at home. Has anyone ever completely finished a tube of chapstick? It either gets lost or washed and ruined.

More rain came in the evening again that kept us inside. That’s when Tim suggested a game of dominoes. Well we were having so much fun that one game turned to seven and we now have six more to go to complete the tournament. We had a blast! Many laughs!! There were also words exchanged. It got tense at times. The strategy!!! We are still married and I had totally forgot to blog!

It’s raining now. More is expected throughout the day. I just turned on the heater because it wast 56* inside the Airstream. I’ve got to go now. Jett is needing out and I need to check on breakfast that I have started. Later!!!
