July 12, 2023 - GREAT SAND DUNES NATIONAL PARK

The Great Sand Dunes would be North America’s tallest dunes. They are 755 feet tall! Both wind and water continually move most of the sand here from 65 miles away. Here it’s deposited at the base of the mountains and is constantly shifting and being reshaped.

Tim and I drove the 25 minutes from the campground over to the park this afternoon to explore. While there we stopped at the visitors center and at the base of the dunes. Spectacular views from both locations. The campground was another area we checked out. Small sites but wow the view some of the sites had!!

Next we drove out to Point of No Return and turned around. You can only get there if you have a 4x4 vehicle and past that you better want to go because the road only gets worse. And you better have means to get yourself out if need be.

Great Sand Dunes is a great park to visit. With some history to research, hiking trails, off road 4x4 trails, sand dune surfing, horseback riding and night Ranger Programs there’s a little something for everyone.

Additional notes: More Micro Mini Puzzles please! And again heavy cloud coverage tonight at this posting.
