SOUTH OF THE BORDER . . .

The time came this morning to make a run for it. Tim and I decided to depart the Outer Banks one day early. When we awoke this morning it was heavily overcast with brief showers. This defiantly helped us make up our mind to begin heading back south but not without one last stop to the Bodie Island Lighthouse for a drive-by photo opportunity ...

The process of deciding where to stay this evening was pretty crude. Circle ones finger over map at approximately the half-way point to next destination and here we are . . . Little Pee Dee State Park in South Carolina just south of the border.

Upon leaving Interstate 95 we did question where Lee Garminita was taking us. We had to travel narrow little country roads through corn fields to get here and even when we entered the park we still weren't sure. Way back in the woods on a quiet and serene lake there stood the campground. Oh so cute, quiet and wooded on a quaint little lake out in the middle of no where. Geese, cardinals, mallard ducks and many others all present.

I guess we think it's so quiet because of hearing nothing but waves slamming the beach and 25 plus mph winds (that was not a complaint) over the last two weeks. So here we are ... unexpected and with no reservations. This gets us so much closer to the next stop without having to drive eight hours in one day and it gets us WATER, ELECTRIC and a HOT SHOWER one day sooner. That made sixteen days without water or electric hook-ups.

Our next stop ... SQUEAL ... I am so excited about! Neither one of us have been there. We are just tickled to be able to make the stop after years of trying AND it's really not that far from home. It's the oldest city in the state of Georgia and was saved from destruction on Sherman's March to the Sea.

Our evening may end with a campfire or watching 'Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil' directed by Clint Eastwood.  I so can't wait for tomorrow . . .
