RAIN, RAIN AND MORE RAIN . . .

It began at about 9:30 PM last night and continued on until about 10:30 AM this morning. Rain and more of it. Then during the afternoon it was heavily overcast with a light mist off and on.

With the weather that set in Tim and I decided to take it easy and do a little road trip.

The first stop was right across the road at the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center. Wow! What a great place. It looked as though only a few boats decided to rough it, out in these conditions, as most of the off-shore boats were still at the dock. These boats are huge and amazing. Not having an abundance of knowledge on these rigs I would guess them to be 50 to 60 plus feet in length and each costing $500,000 to $750,000 and up plus the cost of gear and electronics. With that said one could safely guess this little marina is worth millions. If you want a full day of fishing on one of these babies plan on putting out an average of $1,800 for the day.

Next stop was Nags Head Hammocks. I just couldn't help wanting to buy one. These guys have it all. Every color and style imaginable. There is even someone inside weaving away. Then with a second thought I remembered my twenty plus year old Pauleys Island Hammock is still in amazing shape, my swing chair hammock is as well and our ENO Hammocks are new.

After a quick drive north past Nags Head, Kill Devil Hills, and Kitty Hawk we drove just past Duck. The atmosphere is a little different with less shopping and even more houses and actual tree vegetation. Before we got too far we turned her around before arriving at Tim Buck II.

On our return trip we somehow got on a wild goose chase looking for the Weeping Radish Farm Brewery. By the time we found their location FIFTEEN miles inland and saw that they had just a few outside uncovered picnic tables ... one did have an umbrella ... With the weather we lost interest and went back to the Outer Banks.

That's when we came across BK Shuckers in Kitty Hawk. BK allows dogs, has a nice selection of cold beer, good bar food and a nice outside covered seating area. Tim went with the Oyster Po' Boy and I took on the Surf and Turf Burger. Yum! Jett enjoyed all the attention as well.

Sunset came and went. We thought it was going to be a good one but a heavy layer of clouds set in on the horizon blocking it. However looking back to the east over the Airstream it created some beautiful pink clouds caused by the scattering of sunlight as the sun set in the west.

No sooner did the sun set the full moon rose. I snapped a few pictures then came inside. Then the thought came ... 'we knew it was a full moon tonight' and 'why weren't we on the dunes?!' YOLO!!! (You Only Live Once) With no time to spare and leaving Tim and Jett behind I darted outside. My brisk walk turned into a dart through the dunes as I realized the moon was about to rise into a cloud bank and disappear. It was really worth the effort for the photo and the sixty seconds of magic I had on top of that dune looking out to the full moon and its reflection across the ocean.

Tomorrow may bring a change of plans. We are not scheduled to depart here until Monday but with rethinking our schedule it may turn out we depart a day early. We'll need to re-evaluate tonight taking into consideration the weather and travel distance to our next location.
