D144 - 09/19/24 ARCHES NATIONAL PARK

Today’s episode of our Epic Adventure takes us to Arches National Park. We departed early to go on into Moab prior to our timed entry slot. LOVE Moab! Jeeps everywhere!! The True Value Hardware Store was what we were looking for. As we passed Arches on the way to town the line was backed up past the one hour wait to get in. And that’s with previously purchased timed entry tickets!

Big mistake to go to the hardware store. First they didn’t have what we needed. Then we found a fun outdoor supply store in the same parking lot that sold not only new and used outdoor gear but fun Halloween costumes. As we departed that store we saw the Fiesta Mexicana Restaurante on the far side of the parking lot. Ugh! Good times!!

Once we were done with our unplanned luncheon we headed back to Arches National Park. On our arrival  the wait was just over thirty minutes (with our previously purchased timed entry ticket) but actually took about twenty minutes. And we were in!!

Tim and I have been here before. We have done a good number of the hikes here. Reality is two to three days to see and hike everything. We had three hours. So we made the best of it. A quick stop to the Visitors Center. Had to get my passport stamp! Then our drive through the park took us the entire twenty-five miles into the park stopping briefly at a few places.

Arches National Park is a red-rock wonderland with over 2,000 natural stone arches, hundreds of pinnacles, and giant balanced rocks. I love the natural black rock varnish spots and streaks against the red-rocks. It takes thousands of years for that to form. It’s an amazing place to see. So hard to find words to describe Arches National Park. If you come here definitely give yourself proper time to see it.

When we returned to basecamp we decided to have another campfire. Then spent the rest of the evening stargazing and figuring out where planes were going. (there’s an app) Denver to Vegas. Vegas to Indianapolis. Salt Lake City to Albuquerque. We saw the Milky Way, a few satellites and Tim saw a falling star. The Big and Small Dipper were present along with of course the North Star.

Our day and evening went way too fast. This area is definitely a special place for us and a treasure worth seeing!

Another travel day is in-store for us tomorrow! And more changes in scenery!!
