THE TRANSEPT AND A LINEN DINNER . .

Yet another spectacular day again! Early this morning I took off for the camp store. Word is they have internet there. I really wanted to see if I could get the blog out from there. Yes! It worked.

On my return to base camp Tim and I decided to repack our hiking day bags. Have lunch then take off from camp on a hike. We try to take all necessities with us on hikes. Ponchos, extra water, first aide kit, cell charger, snacks, several means of starting a fire and a few extra things just incase.

We decided to take the Transept Trail from camp to the lodge. This three mile round trip trail follows the edge of the rim over to there. The North Rim is less visited than the South Rim. The quieter North Rim is an alpine forest setting and has a totally different environment for wildlife than the South Rim's high desert. We saw two mule deer right behind the lodge.

Once at the lodge we decided to continue a bit farther to Bright Angel Point. The view was magnificent.

Then on our way back past the lodge we decided to make a stop there. Over the years we have discovered, if there is a lodge there is a lounge. The Rough Rider Saloon is a happening place here at the lodge. So we stopped for a quick brew before heading back to camp.

Once back we had to get ready for our Linen Dinner. A few months back I had made a reservation for dinner at The Lodge tonight. It was so good. The one thing we both loved was the Pumpkin Squash Soup. Super yummy on a chilly evening!!! I had planned our reservation so that we would finish just prior to sunset.

Tim and I then went to the porch out back behind the lodge and enjoyed the great sunset, one like no other that we have seen.

Afterwards we went back to camp where we joined a few other Airstream couples at their campfire. Since there are four Airstreams total in the campground here we nearly have our own rally going. Two of the Airstream couples we met while camping on this trip in Mesa Verde. The other couple we met back in February at Alumaflamingo in Sarasota, Florida. What a small world we live in.
