D128 - 09/03/24 BLAINE, WASHINGTON

Today we finished driving the Sea to Sky Highway. It was another beautiful section of the highway with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. Weaving through the edge of the coastal mountains it has some of the most spectacular views anywhere. Now rated as one of our top three drives by The Wymers! We then skirted around Vancouver. That city is so beautiful and very big.

All was going well until we realized we were in the wrong place. Tim and I always use two different map apps. We constantly check while driving to make sure they are both jiving. And that’s what happened today. Then after we got off the highway just past Vancouver and started going through a neighborhood and made a turn that we weren’t expecting. That’s when we realized not one but both apps had unknowingly re-routed us and was trying to take us back through the thick of Vancouver. Yikes! To an entirely different border crossing. Crikey!!!

Crisis averted after we drove down several neighborhood roads that had street parking on both sides basically making them tight one-ways. Yikes. Keep in mind we are towing a twenty-eight foot Airstream behind us. Tim did an amazing job getting us turned around. That’s when you need a good driver and an even better navigator. Eventually we got headed in the correct direction again and to our desired border entry point. Our crossing was easy and very quick. No line. No waiting. No search. Done in less than a minute. As sad as it is, we are extremely happy to be back in the lower 48!!

Once we crossed into Washington we zipped over to Blaine, Washington. What an adorable town! Our errands included a laundromat, lunch and groceries. Two out of three isn’t bad. The Washhouse was perfect to get our laundry done and we ate nearby at the Bordertown Mexican Grill. It’s right next to a Starbucks that has the most amazing outdoor fireplace. Wow. By the time we finished with these two errands we were done and needed to get to our basecamp for the evening. Groceries will have to wait.

Our basecamp this evening is a special one. We are at a private farm here in Blaine. It is so beautiful and our host so welcoming. They have thought of everything here. The charming barn is absolutely beautiful set in the natural picturesque surroundings of the farm. You can even paddle board in the tidal creek if you want. Play ping pong in the barn. Or just relax in one of the many cozy social sitting areas.

Jett had a blast here as well. We decided to let her off leash. Hah. She ran in the barn then straight for the creek. Went in a little ways then ran the shoreline away from me. Eventually she ran back to Tim by the barn. Phew. Crazy dog! Best day of her life!!

Tomorrow we might take a short diversion nearby. Time will tell. I’m currently waiting on a response to see if we can pull this off. More good times ahead!!

Last night at the museum we had rain off and on throughout the night and very strong winds. Other than that it was a very quiet night. Oh an...
