D126 - 09/01/24 NAIRN FALLS

Last nights aurora was visible to us and again fascinating to see. Still nothing like the night before or even close to what we saw in Montana back in May.

Today’s drive had us continuing down through Canada’s Marble Canyon on the Sea to Sky Highway and it was was incredible. Some tout it as one of the most scenic highways in the world. We went through semi-desert benchlands, terraced farmland, passing turquoise lakes, alpine forests and into majestic mountains still capped with snow. Our drive continued farther south into the Pemberton valley. The drive was amazing with pullovers giving stunning views of the surrounding landscape.

These are some of the details of the Sea to Sky Highway that we passed through today. A one lane tunnel. A few one lane wood decked bridges. Hairpin turns. Truck escape ramp with a turn in it. Beautiful turquoise Duffy Lake.

Rough winding road in most places. Snow capped mountains. Downhill grades of 8%, 10%, 12% and one at 16%. Tim drove today and was done when we made our final destination.

Basecamp has been set-up this evening at Nairn Falls Provincial Park. Beautiful park. The campground has a National Park vibe to it. Only complaint is all the yellow jackets. I had one get me three times on my back. After a hike, family Zoom and dinner we enjoyed a fabulous campfire. Just missing some Twinkies.

We have only driven half of the Sea to Sky Highway today. Once we finished this drive I’ll be sure to put the Wymer Rating on it. Tomorrow we will drive another portion of it and we will ‘sea’ where we land.

*No aurora tonight. Can barely see part of the Big Dipper and the North Star is behind a big tree. But we did see a satellite cruise over!

Last night at the museum we had rain off and on throughout the night and very strong winds. Other than that it was a very quiet night. Oh an...
