This morning found us at the BLM office again. This time there were 32 applications for 71 people for The Coyote Buttes North (The Wave). Again we did not win the lottery for The Wave.
However we did stick around for the Coyote Buttes South lottery and got a permit for it tomorrow! This area is just south of The Wave and very close in scenery. It’s harder to get to and requires 4-wheel drive to get there. We are so excited about going and will spend this evening preparing for tomorrow’s adventure.
After we were done at the BLM office we came back to the basecamp to check on Jett before heading out for lunch. Jett had kept herself busy while we were gone.
Tim and I then decided on Kanab Creek Bakery for lunch. They locally source their ingredients as much as possible and bake all the breads right there. I even bought a small baguette for dinner. The food was very good, light and very fresh. A nice change from the delicious heavier food we ate last week.
Right across the street is the Little Hollywood Museum. It is definitely one of those roadside attractions that draw you in. It was fun and kinda lame. That doesn’t mean don’t go. You should! It’s free so there’s nothing to loose.
Now for the best part of the day! Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park was on our schedule for the afternoon. Just a lovely place. The sand dunes are so, so colorful. The shifting pink sand offers many outdoor activities. Off roading, boarding down the dunes, walking and biking on the dunes!
Jett enjoyed her time there as well and now has Coral Pink Butt Syndrome. For those who doubt what we go through with her. Here it is. WARNING! The following picture could be considered offensive ...
The fine dust sticks to her oily coat like you wouldn’t believe. It does not just brush off. We are keeping wet wipes handy everywhere. Not sure it helps. After wiping her off, she looks better ‘butt’ dust is still deep underneath her coat. Both the truck and the Airstream will need a fine, deep cleaning when this adventure is over.
