9/19 - KANAB, UTAH

Today marks 60 days on the road for this trip! It’s been an awesome trip filled with exciting adventure and exploring. Tim and I have traveled just 42 miles today from Zion to Kanab, Utah.

Kanab is magically unspoiled. It’s a very small town with a population of about 5,000 people. It will serve as a great location for our current basecamp. This location will give us opportunity to explore areas we missed when in the area before.

Kanab RV Corral will be home for a few days. It’s a commercial campground and is located right in town. We prefer to be in state or national parks but this campground is nice and has a lot of amenities including WiFi and a pool! Oh ... and a dog park!! With grass! Everything is gravel here. And for being in town we still have a nice view!!!

More than 100 films have been filmed in this area. There is the Little Hollywood Museum and Trading Post here in town that I must visit along with hopefully capturing some iconic pictures of filming locations in the area.

One major location we will be exploring is the The Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. It is the largest national monument managed by the Bureau of Land Management. My hope and dream is to be able to get a permit to hike The Wave. You have to Google this location to see why I want to go. Mind boggling landscape that is out of this world!

Only 20 people are allowed in this area per day. Ten permits are done by lottery four months in advance. The remaining ten permits are done by live lottery the day before you plan to hike. Tomorrow morning both Tim and I will be at the BLM office by 8:30 AM to fill out a permit request to hike The Wave on Saturday. The lottery is then held at 9:00 AM. We found out 113 people were there today to request the ten remaining permits for tomorrow. Wish us luck!

Did you make it to the Milky Way

to see the lights all faded
