D15 - 05/13/24 GLACIER NATIONAL PARK

Travel day! Sad morning departing my sister’s place in Belgrade. Had to shop and fuel up before departing Belgrade. Farther north we go now!! One of the most beloved National Parks in the U.S., the Crown of the Continent, let me introduce to you … Glacier National Park. LOVE IT HERE!!

From historic hotels to jaw-dropping vistas to spectacular hiking trails, Glacier has it all. Because of its mountainous terrain, activities and sights are clustered in several unique areas of the park and along the central park road corridor. It’s all nestled around the Continental Divide. It would take a lifetime to see and do everything that Glacier National Park has to offer. However we only have one full day and will make the most of what is available.

A few years ago we visited this National Park and fell in love. Last time we were staying on the west side at Fish Creek Campground. This time we are on the east side at Saint Mary Campground just inside the east entrance. Since Going To The Sun road is closed during winter and at earliest won’t open until July this will just serve as a prep-basecamp to get ourselves situated and compliant before crossing the International Border into Canada. This has been one of my biggest concerns for this Epic Adventure.

The drive today was so nice. Barely any other vehicles. Spectacular scenery. Nice roads. Had even started thinking that we hadn’t seen any other RVs and the few we did see were coming from where we are going. It starts to make you think about decisions made.

About ten miles from Glacier National Park Tim spotted a black bear bear next to the road trying to maneuver through a fence to cross the road. I so missed getting a photograph. Oh well! I’m sure we will see more on this Epic Adventure.

As far as our campsite. OMG!! It’s a gazillion dollar view. And quite possibly the best campsite we have EVER had. You don’t get this lucky everyday!! Almost impossible to absorb everything in our view.

Hopefully we will still be able to venture out to see a few things while here even though a majority of the park is closed. They are still in winter mode this far north. Our Starlink (Elthree-37) is not pointing north anymore. She now has a northeastern direction. Kinda doing a R2D2 thing! Also the shift in sunset/sunrise is really beginning to be noticeable now. Tonight sunset is at 9:07pm and sunrise tomorrow is 5:52am. Wish me luck with Jett who no matter how many times we try to explain to her it’s not time to eat she insists it is. LOL

One of my goals on this Epic Adventure will be to stand and sit on rocks. I don’t think you have lived life until you have sat or stood on a rock in the wilderness to contemplate life.
