D10 - 05/08/24 NOT THE PLAN

The Airstream stayed at about 52* inside last night without a heater on. With good bedding and warm jammies it’s the perfect sleeping weather!

Mid morning Tim, with it still in the low 40’s outside, went out to start our small Honda generator. This will be our first use of it this trip. The new lithium batteries had gone down to 62% without any sun or power hookup in three days. Not bad! Could go another day or so but with not knowing what tomorrow may bring we will charge up now.

Next order of business today was to troubleshoot the heater for the Airstream. After disassembly Tim discovered it’s the flame burner. I’ve got it on order now and will get it in a few days in Montana.

Over cast, cold and windy today. We chose not to hike and to instead go visit another Visitor Center here in the South Unit. Painted Canyon Visitor Center has a magnificent panoramic view of the broken landscape. Colorful hues dot the canyon intermixed with the lush grasslands.

Once back in town we paid a visit to the North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame/Center of Western Heritage and Cultures: Native American Ranching and Rodeo interpretive center. It features a theater, galleries, artifacts and memorabilia devoted to the surrounding culture and heritage. We enjoyed our stop here to learn more about the area and history here.

Next up was the Little Missouri Saloon. We stopped for pizza and cold beer. It was delicious and the perfect end to a fun day that was not our original plan. And so far Jett is okay from her Bison chip incident yesterday!
