A short distance from downtown Charleston stands Boone Hall Plantation and Gardens. Today it spans 738 acres and is one of America's oldest working plantations. The antebellum style mansion is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. We had a lovely visit there today leisurely strolling the grounds.
The grounds surrounding the plantation includes brick slave cabins, stables, crop fields, preserved wetlands, creeks, ponds and gardens. It's also a popular location for film and television. Another great thing about this plantation is that leashed dogs are welcomed on property but not in the house. Jett had fun! She met a few new people and even a couple of horses.
After spending half the day here we swung back by camp to drop Jett off. She was exhausted from her day on the plantation and could not even hold her head up. Tim and I then found yet another 'hole in the wall' kinda place in the best possible way. This time we had more of a local traditional cuisine. It's definitely a classic coastal seafood shack!
Bowen's Island which is 'really' located in lowcountry offers amazing sunsets and some great food.
A Tray of yummy Oysters ...
Some tasty Frogmore Stew otherwise known as a Lowcountry Boil ...
Tomorrow will bring us more adventures here in Charleston and even more good food I'm sure!
