Today was a day that we did not do what the average tourist does in Charleston. Most of the time we try to stay away from the crazy busy stuff but most of what we want to see is in the middle of it here. So before we get into the heart of Charleston we decided to first go off the beat'n path today.
First my day started off taking Jett to the dog park. And you'll never believe it ... we found her twin sister. I can't believe two of them exist. Millie is just one month younger than Jett and is almost the exact same spitting image of her. They both have the same alpha personality. Both are crazy pants running all over. Both have that wavy hair. Both love swimming and acted like they needed to compete with each other. I had to double check that I was bringing the right dog home. Jett wanted me to send a shout out to all her buddies back home at her dog park. Woof! Woof! Again I think it was the most fun she has ever had!
Speaking of running ... I had to keep Tim from running in the museum we visited today. The North Charleston and LaFrance Fire Museum is located about thirty minutes north of where we are staying. The collection of over twenty fire vehicles and priceless antique firefighting artifacts is absolutely amazing.
This spectacular museum is the home to the largest collection of fully restored American LaFrance Fire Apparatus in the country. My favorite two engines were the 1911 LaFrance from Pennsylvania and the 1940 LaFrance from Oklahoma. This is definitely a place worth visiting.
Since I still have this cold and can't quite shake it off I had decided to maybe look for a voodoo doctor since nothing else seems to be working. Somehow in our search we landed at the Tattooed Moose and Voodoo Lounge. The food I have to say was absolutely super yummy scrumptious and delish!
If there is a 'hole in the wall' kinda place to be found I will find it. It's an upbeat watering hole that can't be missed. So here is what we had taken straight from the menu:
Mike's Famous Duck Club! It's said to be the best sandwich ever made! A triple decker filled with duck confit, applewood smoked bacon and hickory smoked cheddar topped with garlic aioli, lettuce, tomato and red onion on sweet Hawaiian bread.
The Thanksgiving Sammy! Roasted turkey, cornbread stuffing, cranberry sauce, mayo and crispy onions on toasted wheat served with a side of gravy for dippin'!
Duck Fat Fries and Gravy! (No description needed)
This is just a small sampling of what this establishment has to offer. My head is still spinning from the sensory overload of scrumptious tastes. Hoping to find a place to eat just as good if not better tomorrow!
