July 7, 2023 - ROAD TRIP! Head’n west!!

Finally we are on the road! I know I haven’t posted in quite a while. We’ve been on many short trips in our absence (with Airstream, without Airstream and flights across the country) those basically just repeated previous outings we have done. Many of you know it’s been a hard push for us to depart on this adventure. Six days late departing. And just like that Mother Nature gave us a gorgeous sunset!

Even with a late start in the day Friday we landed in the panhandle at the Cracker Barrel in Crestview, Florida. We really wanted to make it into Mississippi but decided to keep it safe by stopping short before we got tired. The best thing about the CB besides the 4AM dumpster pickup is coffee and breakfast in the morning!

Our 2004 Airstream was the major cause behind our delay. A number of years ago we knew some work needed to be done to our 2004 Airstream. The frame issue and buckling floor has only gotten worse. Just like anything else one item becomes a domino effect of ‘can’t do this without doing that’. And it was put off until we could not wait any longer. What Tim and I did in five weeks should have been done in eight weeks. Working 10-16 hours everyday. Almost a full renovation in FIVE WEEKS! Here are a few before, during and after pictures of what we actually accomplished …

This is just a short list of some of the things we accomplished … frame work, new belly pan, removed dinette, added an exterior step light, added exterior electric outlet at base of awning arm, new galley countertop, new kitchen faucet, repaired two rotted spots in subfloor, beautiful new flooring, switched over to lithium and installed a compost toilet. Yea … we are composting!!

Over the course of this journey I’ll touch base on some of these changes to let you know how we like all the newness!  We didn’t have time to complete everything. We still need to add the new flooring in the bedroom, replace the bathroom countertop, build a lounge where the dinette was and finish a few other miscellaneous items that can wait until our return home. I must say so far we LOVE all the changes!!
