What a gorgeous day! Down here in the foothills it was 91* today. Being it was our last full day here in Ten Sleep Tim and I took off for a hike. We drove eighteen miles back towards Buffalo, Wyoming to Deer Haven Lodge Road. We then took this gravel road another eight miles back to the trail head for West Tensleep Falls.
On our arrival to the trail head it was 72* and our elevation was 9,180’. The lot was packed with vehicles but luckily for us we got one of the last two open parking spots. Everyone there was hiking up other trails towards Cloud Peak at 13,167’. That left our trail void of other hikers.
It’s a beautiful trail that parallels the Middle Tensleep Creek.
The trail then opens up into a small meadow of wildflowers where you can see many trout in the creek there where it widens. This turned out to be a super easy hiking trail and we wished we had brought Jett along.
On our return to the trailhead we took a short detour down the Bear Park Trail then back to the other side of where the truck was parked to hike down to West Tensleep Lake. Looking across the lake you can see that there is still some snow at higher elevations up on Cloud Peak.
This is where we ran into a lady who had brought her black lab out on a hike to swim in the lake. He was a handsome boy and was so excited to go swimming!
Back in town we stopped by to let Jett out then walked back into town to grab a burger at 1Cow then I made my way to the Sleepy Coyote Cafe and Bar while Tim dropped back into Dirty Sally’s General Store for more ice cream.
It was a good day! Tomorrow brings us a travel day and I should hopefully be able to see my sister, JoAnn, who lives in Montana!
