The weather was perfect this morning for Dawn Patrol. Tim and I had the best view at 6 AM of Dawn Patrol right from our Airstream. We then made it on the field well before Mass Ascension at 6:30 AM. And it was phenomenal!!!
Mass Ascension went off without a hitch this morning. It is an amazing feeling that at times can be over stimulating because as you walk the field so much, as in HUNDREDS of balloons 360* around you, is going on. Some crews are laying out the envelopes. Some envelopes are inflating on the ground. Some are raising off the ground. Some are taking flight. Each stage has its own set of loud noises.
The wind conditions today were just so that the currents drifted all the balloons right over all of our Airstreams. Tim and I knew this was going to be the case so we started on the field. Got breakfast down there. Watched a few balloons launch from the field then we returned to the Airstream to watch the rest of the Mass Ascension from there. Jett did great watching all the balloons while outside. We thought she would maybe want to bark at them but she just chilled out, enjoying the weather, like it was no big deal.
A Car Show was next on our agenda. So many cool cars in attendance! This was of course on the north (farthest) end of the field. By the time we went back onto the field I had my 10,000 steps in well before lunch. But I’m only at 6.56 miles now for the day.
Then we enjoyed a fabulous early happy hour with friends from Virginia who are here in their Airstream. We had not seen them in years. It was great to catch up. We went straight from seeing them to meeting up with a guy who use to work with Tim and is currently living/working here in Albuquerque.
We were able to spend more time this evening on the field for the Balloon Glow at night. FUN! Then skydivers!! Then more fireworks!!!
We are not sure what tomorrow will bring as the wind has picked up late this evening and may continue throughout the night and into tomorrow.
