Special Shape Rodeo and Kids Day were the big events today at Balloon Fiesta. The upper winds were not cooperating. They did not do Dawn Patrol but did however launch a pi-ball. Which is the release of a small helium balloon that visually shows wind direction and speed. That was the final factor for a no go.
They were however able to just inflate the special shape balloons to put on a show without launching. That’s is just as much fun. All the kids were having a blast. It’s really interesting to see the flat balloon envelopes laying on the ground and try to determine what they are before they inflate.
Our afternoon adventures then took us location scouting. Tim and I played tourist and hit a bunch of ‘BREAKING BAD’ locations. When we were here previously I had Tim take me to just a few of these locations. At the time the locations meant nothing to him because he had not seen any of the episodes. Now that he has four seasons under his belt and understands what I am talking about he gladly toured me around the city! So here are the locations we scouted today . . .
‘BREAKING BAD’ Locations
The Car Wash - not much of a change other than the name.
Saul Goodman’s Office - new Red roof and it’s now a bar.
Walter White’s House - these poor home owners get no rest. And are living behind a needed fence now. People kept looking in the windows and throwing pizza on the roof. I do like the new roof, paint job and windows.
La Palomita Park - this is the park where Mike would take his granddaughter.
Gustavo’s House - Gus was not home.
Rebel Donut Shop - not a filming location but they make ‘sky blue’ donuts. They were sold out when we arrived so I got a few Homer Donuts!
Los Pollos Hermanos - Gus was not at work either. I think this was my favorite location of the day. Twisters sells burritos and tacos! A little deja vu. The shrine there was cool and maybe even a little creepy with the mini meth lab set-up.
Jesse Pinkman’s House - This is a really nice neighborhood. Jett got to take a walk and roll in the grass in a park right there.
Tuco’s Headquarters - Can you believe Tuco had this place right near an elementary school?!
It did turn out to be a fun road trip (hunt) for the day!
This evenings program in the field has been all cancelled except for the fireworks. The Special Shape Glowdeo was no match for the very high winds continuing to coming through Albuquerque. They could not even inflate any of them. Tim and I are hunkered down in the Airstream. We have actually just turned on the TV in the Airstream for the first time on this trip to catch the live coverage on the Balloon Fiesta field 200’ away. We have no hook-ups here but are charging the batteries with one of our generators now. So during that time we are taking advantage of the power by having the TV on.
The fireworks were great! And the sound effects were even more spectacular!! Being able to see the fireworks display through the window. Then seem them live on TV and have the thunderous sound of them going off just outside was pretty cool!!!
Tonight’s temperature is expected to drop as well. We will probably be at 30* for our low. Winds will begin to lay down overnight. Other than the brisk cold air we hope it will make for a beautiful morning to launch some balloons! Brrrrr.
