What began as a lazy slow morning became one of the best days ever! Destination . . . the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. One of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.
After traveling via Utah to get back into Arizona to be able to head south toward the Grand Canyon we finally arrived. Remember that closed road in Arizona by Horseshoe Bend? Luckily we remembered and headed in the right direction without doing a u-turn. Again the terrain along the way changed with every minute.
The nearest full size grocery store is 87 miles away back in Kanab. The depth of the canyon is ONE MILE and 277 miles in length. The width is ... Are your ready for this? Up to EIGHTEEN miles across.
Finally we arrived at the entrance gate of the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Back when I began coordinating this Epic Adventure this stop was not even on radar. Since it had been awhile since my last geography lesson I had no idea how close it was to a few of our already scheduled stops.
Just about a half a mile past the entrance gate there THEY were. It was just like being on a movie set when someone yells 'Queue the buffalo!' And just like that a herd of buffalo appears on the meadow.
After we settled, it began to rain. Then hail. Uh ... Yeah the 'H' word for Airstreamers happened and happened again three times. Luckily it was mini pebble size and no damage occurred. Phewwwww!!! Crisis averted!
If there is ever a vision of the perfect camp setting in a National Park. This is it! The smell of the Ponderosa Pine and campfires, the beautiful yellow leaf change of the Aspens and the most scenic, gorgeous view of the canyon.
HERE WE ARE ...
