This morning was pretty much the same sequence of events with the balloons as yesterday. However Tim and I decided not to go to the field. Instead we got an extra hour of sleep. Percolated coffee (our 'camp' coffee) at the Airstream and enjoyed the air show from here.
The air currents were perfect bringing all the balloons right over us. It could not have been a more perfect morning. First thing each morning at 7AM American flags are hung on two balloons as they launch while our National Anthem is sung. Along with our coffee I had to have some of that Cookie Butter on my banana for breakfast. Oh yeah! Wow! Wow! Super yummy.
Once the balloons finished we finalized our packing up of camp and headed out. Leaving the Balloon Fiesta behind. What a spectacular event that we one year hope to return to! It was a short two and a half hour drive west for us on I-40 to Gallup, NM. The terrain changed a little. There are a few more trees and some of the bushes seem greener.
The more time that we stayed in Albuquerque the more we came to like it. I must say the most polite people ever live here. Everywhere we were or stopped at, we met and had great conversations with people. Even standing and working our way through crowds of hundreds of thousands of people everyone was super nice and not rude.
This will be a one night stay at the USA RV Park in Gallup on Rt. 66. It's not a bad place. They have all the things we need full hook-ups, laundry and supper! One of the special things they do here every evening is cook a BBQ Dinner. All that you need to do is order and pay in advance then go pick it up between 5PM and 8PM. Super easy solution for dinner on a travel day and it was not bad! AND you don't have to leave the park AND there are no dishes to wash. After having dry camped at the Balloon Fiesta for four days it was time to have hook-ups. We only used the generator once ... to test it since we had not used it yet and so that I could blow dry my hair. In a few days we will be dry camping again and will probably need it due to the weather there. Otherwise we have been using our solar panel on the Airstream to charge iPhones, portable chargers and camera batteries.
PS ... The seven Gas Ballooons launched at 1:30 AM this morning from the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta Field. Four are from the US and the others are from Spain, Poland and Germany. These balloons race for distance and are filled with hydrogen. As of this posting one balloon is out and the rest are over Oklahoma. Go to . . .
