OUT OF CONTROL . . .

Today begins a week long adventure for Tim and I. This will be our first trip in eight years that we will be traveling together without the Airstream. Our goal was to land in Athens, Georgia for the night and then continue to Gatlinburg, TN on Sunday. Well, we've decided that we are out of control without the Airstream because we are staying the night in a hotel just south of Savannah, Georgia. Huh?!

Our day began not as planned when we decided the backpack that Tim was bringing for our three day hike in the Smoky Mountain's was not adequate. So we loaded the car early and headed to Travel Country in Casselberry. I had purchased  a weekender backpack there recently and knew they had a good selection. But just our luck they were out of stock on what Tim needed. So where else do you go? REI! The closest location is in Jacksonville, Florida.

Off we went north with a new route plan. Traffic was bad around Daytona and also coming into Jacksonville. By the time we landed at REI it was just after lunch, we were hungry and we needed to eat. Pei Wei was in the same parking lot and was the perfect place to sit outside and grab a bite.

Once in REI we knew we were in the right place. There is so much stuff in one of these stores. This was Tim's first time at one. My sister took me to one in Montana and Tim and I tried to go to one in Albuquerque last year but it just never happened. Once Tim decided on a backpack it took a good amount of time to make sure it was what he wanted and to have the bag custom fit. The experts at REI load the backpack make you do laps in the store, make adjustments, more laps and then custom mold the hip belt.

All said and done a three hour drive from home to the Georgia state line took us a whopping seven hours. And that's how we landed in Savannah. We are two lost souls living in a fish bowl. At least with the Airstream I know where I will sleep every night. I just don't know where the Airstream will be. As we are finding out on this trip when you are not towing we wind up all over the place and not only do we not know where we will be staying we really don't know anything about how the day will progress.

Here's a little hint of where we will be hiking to . . .
(Hopefully no snow will be present on our arrival)
