August 10, 2023 - GUACAMOLE AND FISH

Temperatures:

Exterior: 48*

Interior: 54*

It was another fabulous day up here in Colorado! We drove down to Dolores for lunch. Montezuma Mexican Restaurant was very tasty and we were so excited to finally get our Mexican food fix! Tim had a #25 combo with a Chili Relleno. I got the Pork Chile Verde Burrito in Green Sauce. And we shared an order of guacamole to have with our chips and salsa. Soooo good!!!

While in town we made quick stops at Docs Outfitters and Sporting Goods to get more fly fishing lures, tapered leaders and I needed another stringer. Then I went across the street to checkout an antique store while Tim went to fuel the truck. And our last stop was the expensive small grocery store to get ONLY the most important things we needed.

Wouldn’t ya know they don’t sell those k-cups for Kuerigs up here. It’s okay! I have two other means of making coffee!! So Folgers ground coffee it is.

Late in the afternoon I went fishing. I caught one! I’m almost embarrassed about how I got him. I walked to my fishing spot down river.  Unhooked my fly. Applied fishing floatant to it. Let the fly dangle in the water. Angled the tip of my rod down so that I could pull line off the reel. Realized I had already got the fly stuck on something before I even cast …. WAIT … WHAT … a beautiful rainbow trout was on my line! No kidding!! I was so excited and embarrassed all at the same time!! A catch is a catch! LOL

It took me a few minutes to get him unhooked. I couldn’t get a good picture because I was by myself. I needed to keep him in the water since he would be released. Fun fishing story and great way to end the day!

July 19, 2023 - MORE FISHING!

Good job Jett … getting us up early. Oh wait. That’s every morning. At about 5:20 AM she wanted out and fed. Guess she thinks it’s 7:30! I checked the thermometer and it was 42* inside the Airstream and 35* outside! Yowza!! Brrr.

We spent the day fishing, tending to Jett’s needs and adjusting solar panels. Fishing was not as successful as yesterday. However in my opinion every day is a good day when you are fly fishing. Fish or no fish. It’s still better than any day at work. It’s just a peaceful setting to be on the water. You think only about casting and getting that fly exactly where you want it. And where would the fish be? Period.

We also custom fit our new sun shade to the awning. Giving us some additional shade in the afternoon. Watched day campsite poachers. Yes, they exist. And then an Alaskan vintage slide in truck camper arrived at the end of the day …

A few final notes …Tomorrow we will have visitors at camp. And I noticed the snow capped mountain in the distance on our arrival. Just in the few day we have been here it’s melted. No wonder the creek water is so cold!!!

July 18, 2023 - FLY FISHING :-))))

Not sure how cold it got outside but when I got up This morning it was 45* inside the Airstream. It was 54* yesterday morning so I didn’t think about it possibly getting colder. I have now put the sensor outside so we will see how cold tomorrow morning is.

Today was a first. I’m still smiling! I have fly fished a number of times previously. Both in Montana and in Colorado. Lots of hits but never a catch! Today was the day!! Not sure if it was pure luck or my new Orvis fly fishing rod and reel combo. Must be Orvis … that’s the only difference from previous outings.

He was a Columbia River Redband Trout. He had an orange-red lateral line with heavily spotted fins, sides and tail AND distinct white tips on the lower fins. Y’all I can’t tell you how exciting this was for me. And of course I was out there by myself. Having to do all my own selfies!! LOL No one to witness other than my cell phone. This trout was small … probably 8”. Now that I look at the picture he was WAY bigger. I did a catch and release on him making sure he was revived after all the picture taking.

Tim fished as well right after me. He landed then loss a BIG one. Got him all the way to the bank. Had his hands on him!! He didn’t have a net on him. Then he went back out with a net and caught two more! Hopefully tomorrow we can both get out at the same time … with nets!

It was a good day!! This is why we Airstream!!
